Saurischia Theropoda Maniraptora Anchiornithidae

Die Anchiornithidae ("nahe den Vögeln") waren eine kleine Gruppe vogelähnlicher, kleiner gefiederter Theropoden, die in ihrer Biologie und Aussehen viele Merkmale besaßen, welche sie mit den den Paraves und frühen Avialae teilten. Auch mit den den Dinosauriern aus der Familie der Troodontidae besaßen sie viele Ähnlichkeiten.

Diese Klade wurde ursprünglich von Xu et al. im Jahr 2016 als Anchiornithinae beschrieben, definiert als große umfassende Gruppe einschließlich Anchiornis, aber nicht mit Archaeopteryx, den Gallus (Kammhühnern), Troodon, Dromaeosaurus, Unenlagia oder Epidexipteryx. Christian Foth und Oliver W. M. Rauhut definierten im Jahr 2017 die Anchiornithidae neu als alle maniraptoren Theropoden, die enger mit Anchiornis huxleyi verwandt sind als mit Passer domesticus, Archaeopteryx lithographica, Dromaeosaurus albertensis, Troodon formosus oder Oviraptor philoceratops.
